What We Believe

We are Christians who believe that God loves us, and that through the life, death, and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ we are assured salvation and eternal life.   With our fellow Christians we confess the three great creeds of the church:  The Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the less familiar Athanasian Creed.

We welcome Christians from all denominations to be part of our church family.  As Lutherans we are particularly attuned to the teachings of Martin Luther who emphasized God’s grace, his Spirit inspired witness to us in the Bible, and the joy of church music.

Lutherans today have formed many different church bodies or synods—the one we belong to is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States.  The ELCA is in full communion with quite a few other Protestant churches including the Presbyterian Church, the United Methodist Church and the Reformed Church in America.  The ELCA has been ordaining women as pastors since 1970, making it unique among the larger American Lutheran synods.
